Mosquitoes & ticks

Mosquito and tick control for cabins and homes

By cabin owners, for cabin owners.

Guests come to the Smokies to sit on the deck, soak in the hot tub and hike the trails. Mosquitoes and ticks get in the way of all three. We treat the yard, the deck and the wooded edges where they wait, and help you get rid of the standing water they breed in.

Seasonal plans

Cover the whole season

A small paper wasp nest under the eave is one thing. Yellow jackets in a wall or in the ground by the steps are another. Spray the wrong hole and they can chew through to the inside, or pour out at whoever is closest. We bring the right gear and keep guests and kids clear while we work.

Where they hide

Where mosquitoes and ticks hide around a cabin

Mosquitoes need standing water to breed, and it does not take much. Ticks wait in tall grass and brush for someone to walk past. Around a mountain cabin, that means:

Water in planters, buckets, toys and the folds of tarps

Rainwater pooled on hot tub and grill covers

Clogged gutters and low spots that stay wet after a storm

Tall grass, brush and leaf litter where the lawn meets the woods

The edges of the path from your deck to the trail

Tipping out standing water once a week is one of the simplest things you can do.

1

Stay in the middle of the trail.

Avoid brushing through tall grass and low branches.

2

Cover up.

Long pants tucked into socks, in light colors, make ticks easier to spot.

3

Use an EPA-registered repellent.

Follow the label, especially on kids.

4

Check after every hike.

Look over yourself, kids and pets, especially behind knees, at the waist, around ears and in hair.

5

Shower and dry your clothes.

Shower after coming in, and run hiking clothes through a hot dryer.

Ticks

Are there ticks in Gatlinburg?

Yes. Ticks live throughout the Smokies, wherever there are woods and tall grass. Tick season runs roughly from spring through fall, and hikers are the guests most likely to bring one back. For health questions, see the CDC tick information. Here is the short list for guests:

Called on a Tuesday about wasps under the deck rail and they were out the next morning. Gone, and they have not come back.

We rent our cabin out most weekends. They worked around the booking calendar and sent photos after, so I knew exactly what was done.

Quoted a flat price up front and that is what I paid. Polite, quick, and they explained what they were spraying and why.
